Press & Proof is an independent publication about the WordPress ecosystem: hosting, pricing, and the AI design tooling growing up around it. The promise is simple: the plain answer a working developer would give a friend, with a named human accountable for every page.

The editor

This site is edited by Nate, a web developer who has been building and running sites for roughly twenty years — through the shared-hosting era, the managed-WordPress era, and now the AI-builder era. Over those years he has moved dozens of client sites onto Cloudways, and he still helps look after several of them today — which means the hosting opinions here come from production workloads and the monthly bills they actually generate, not from trial accounts spun up for a review. Among the larger sites he has moved onto Cloudways: Relevant Magazine and Practice Sports — both still running there today, spanning high-traffic publishing and e-commerce. Some of those sites pay more than $2,000 a month for hosting. Yours almost certainly doesn't need that — and knowing where that line sits is a lot of what this site offers.

How articles get made

Drafting and analysis here use named AI analysts running on Simulence. Every article is then verified, edited, and signed off by the human editor of record before it publishes, and every article displays the date it was last verified. When something is out of date, the honest move is to say so on the page — see the methodology for the commitments we hold ourselves to, and the desk for how the model works.

How the site makes money

Partner commissions. Some links on this site are affiliate links routed through /go/ paths, and we may earn a commission when you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. Rankings and verdicts are never sold; a partner relationship gets a vendor a link, not a conclusion.
